Bones And All

This is a rewatch, a deeply disturbing rewatch. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross deliver an otherworldly score, while Luca Guadagnino’s direction remains fiercely composed. The subject matter is dark and undeniably niche, yet stripped down to its core, it functions as a haunting metaphor for addiction. How lucky most of us are to be free from that particular hunger. How very, very lucky.
The Drama

Wow. The way this film weaponizes cuts to mimic internal anxiety is really interesting. These are two of the strongest actors we have working today at the top of their game. Great stuff.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

I decided to watch another Stanley Kramer film after having been floored by Judgment at Nuremberg. This one was a lot of fun. It plants seeds in your mind for how things will pan out, and then surprises you with surprising depth of character. Can’t help but compare it to Guess Who, with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, and how much better this one is.
Judgment at Nuremberg

Very moved by this one. Anytime concentration camp footage is shown, it's hard not to be. Beyond that, I found the direction fantastic. Judy Garland kills it. So does everyone else. I'm in awe at how complex the film is. Coming out 16 years after the war ended, The film's thoughts on the subject of guilt and innocence was astounding, as was the conclusion. Maybe it's because I love the subject matter (the banality of evil), but this one really got me.
Lawrence of Arabia

One of the most beautiful pictures ever made. I've been thinking a lot recently about the most beautiful images put to screen, and this was the first one that came to mind, so had to give it a rewatch. The parallels to Dune are interesting. I didn't notice the first time I watched this, since I hadn't read or seen Dune at the time.
